What is "Healthy Masculinity"?

We’ve got thoughts on healthy masculinity

but first, we’d love to hear yours .

Integrity

It’s been said that a man is as good as his word. Noble kings, warriors, and wise elders have known and said this for centuries. To embody healthy masculinity, you must be a man of integrity. We define integrity as living in alignment with your core values, being true to your word, and showing consistency between your actions, beliefs, and purpose. It involves courage, authenticity, and responsibility—honoring commitments to yourself and others, even when it’s difficult. In Journeymen, integrity means stepping into manhood with accountability, self-awareness, and a commitment to growth, fostering trust within the community and with yourself.

Transformation

As a fire burns, wood transforms to ashe, providing light, warmth, and a way to prepare food. Similarly, one who embodies healthy masculinity, seeks out opportunities for self-discovery and takes those lessons to transform into a better version of himself. As a boy evolves into a man, he faces challenges, learns from experience, and steps into his authentic self. A man embarks on the Hero’s Journey of shedding old patterns, embracing new perspectives, and continuously striving for self-improvement. In Journeymen, transformation is about becoming who you are meant to be, fostering resilience, self-mastery, and a deeper connection to your purpose and service to your community.

Self-Leadership

Self-leadership is the ability to take responsibility for your actions, guiding yourself with clarity, discipline, and purpose. It means setting your own direction, making conscious choices, and leading by example, while staying true to your values. In Journeymen, self-leadership is about developing self-awareness, owning your journey, and stepping forward with confidence, empowering yourself to build a satisfying life of integrity.

Community

We teach our boys to connect deeper with themselves and each other so that they can become interdependent and belong within a community that cares for them… Working against the lone wolf narrative. “We see community as a participatory verb - similar to connection…”

Empathy

Healthy men have an ability to understand and share the feelings of another. You and I are the same. care for self, others, world. Respect.
